A Collection of Prayers for use in Hospitals: Day 1 – for Training School

Day 1, page 3 – second prayer

Prayer For Training School

O God, our keeper and helper, we humbly pray [You] watch over those who have gone forth from us to enter upon their several callings in this world.  May [Your] Fatherly care shield them, the love of [Your] dear Son preserve them from all evil, and the guidance of [Your] Holy Spirit keep them in the way that leads to eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. [Amen.]

Suggested Old and New Testament verses:

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Genesis 2:18 ESV

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.  John 14:26ESV

These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10ESV

And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’  Acts 22:16ESV

And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’  Acts 2:21 ESV

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  Matthew 28:19 ESV

Psalms:

Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! …  Psalm 150:1-6 ESV

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, … Psalm 91:1-16 ESV

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.[a]
    He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness[b]
    for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,[c]
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely[d] goodness and mercy[e] shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell[f] in the house of the Lord
    forever.[g]

Psalm 23

In the blog posts under this title we will revisit a collection of prayers published by the BBC* in the 1950’s for use in hospitals, [] denote changes. These prayers included Psalms suggested reading within the text and here we add some Old and New Testament scripture that could also be associated with the prayers.
