A Thanksgiving Prayer

We give [You] thanks, O Heavenly Father, for all those who hallow pain, for those whose thought is always for others, for those whose faith bring light to the dark places of this earth.  And grant, O God of Love, to all those who are bound together, in the mysterious fellowship of suffering, the sense of comradeship with others, and the certain knowledge of [Your] Love; for all these we praise and magnify [Your] Holy Name, Amen.

Suggested Old and New Testament verses:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. …  John 15:1-10 ESV

Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.  1 John 2:6 ESV

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  James 4:8 ESV

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.  John 14:15 ESV

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  Matthew 6:33 ESV

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.  Matthew 6:24 ESV

But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.  1 John 2:27 ESV

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.  James 1:27 ESV

“I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.  John 5:30 ESV

Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.  Matthew 10:37 ESV

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.  2 Timothy 2:15 ESV

If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;  2 Timothy 2:12 ESV

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.  John 3:16-17 ESV

Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.  Jude 1:7 ESV

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: …  1 John 2:1-29 ESV

Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.  Hebrews 5:8 ESV

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.  2 Timothy 1:7 ESV

Psalms:

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.  Psalm 121:2 ESV

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!  Psalm 107:1 ESV

I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.  Psalm 7:17 ESV

A Psalm for giving thanks. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.  Psalm 100:1-5 ESV
