A Collection of Prayers for use in Hospitals: Day 6 – For Love of Our Fellow Man

Day 6, page 33 – 34 – third prayer

Prayer for Love of Our Fellow Man

O Lord Jesus Christ, who on [Your] Cross [did] forgive and welcome the penitent thief, give us the vision to see [Your] lost image in every man, and to realize that however, to our limited sense of sight, a man may be degraded, there is still within him a spark of Divine love; and, if it be [Your] will, may we be ready to be “channels only” of [Your] love, to awaken in him the desire to be what [You would] have him to be, and thus there may be joy in the presence of the Angels of God. [For as it is written, “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.’” (‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:10‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬).  We pray this in the name and for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen. ]

Suggested Old and New Testament verses:

“And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.””

‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:25‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:32‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:14-15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:21-22‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:14-15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

‭‭James‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“”Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:37‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“”But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:27‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭103:10-14‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:13‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭10:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:23‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:9-10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In the blog posts under this title we will revisit a collection of prayers published by the BBC* in the 1950’s for use in hospitals, [] denote changes. These prayers included Psalms suggested reading within the text and here we add some Old and New Testament scripture that could also be associated with the prayers.
