A Collection of Prayers for use in Hospitals: Day 6 – For Determination

Day 6, page 34 – first prayer

Prayer for Determination

Grant, O Lord, that, keeping in glad rememberance those who have stood by us and helped us, who have cheered us by their sympathy, and strengthened us by their example, we may seize every opportunity of life, and rejoice in the promise of a glorious resurrection with them, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. [Amen].

Suggested Old and New Testament verses:

“Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭25:7‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“Remember for my good, O my God, all that I have done for this people.”
‭‭Nehemiah‬ ‭5:19‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.””

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭77:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“and my God. My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭14:21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit,”

‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate.”

‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭9:24-27‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:13‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭15:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In the blog posts under this title we will revisit a collection of prayers published by the BBC* in the 1950’s for use in hospitals, [] denote changes. These prayers included Psalms suggested reading within the text and here we add some Old and New Testament scripture that could also be associated with the prayers.
