A Collection of Prayers for use in Hospitals: Day 6 – An Evening Prayer

Day 6, page 35, First Prayer

An Evening Prayer

Help us to remember O Lord [Your] care for the sick, [Your resurrecting power, and Your healing miracles that we read in Scripture and that see before us daily], give us faith to believe that all things work together for good to them that love [You]. Into [Your] hands we commend ourselves, and all whom we love this night. May we see “light at evening time,” [In the name and for the sake of Jesus Christ.] Amen.

A Hymn

A Radiant Morning has Passed Away

by G. Thring

1 The radiant morn hath passed away, And spent too soon her golden store;…..

Suggested Old and New Testament Verses

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭15:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭23:29‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:35‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:12-14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“He went on from there and entered their synagogue. And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse him. He said to them, “Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12:9-13‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭18:35-43‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.””

‭‭John‬ ‭11:17-27‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4:23-25‬ ‭ESV‬‬
